Don’t describe the race ending as unfortunate Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes are a superior team to RedBull. Lewis understand much more than the elements of being a racer he also does his due diligence on drivers that present the greatest challenge to his legacy something Max hasn’t, got time for. This is what the greatest of them are made of.

Wrong. Driver's been told that they won't be monitored at turn 4. But that doesn't mean they are allowed to gain an advantage using it constantly. Hence the lasting advantage and the intervention during the race. Yeap is confusing and shouldn't happen. So , they were allowed as long as they don't get a lasting advantage. Yet , if is not an advantage why they use it ?

I'm sure I'm in the minority but I've watched F1 for 10 plus years this race was not that great I'm sure the covid restrictions and all that goes with that issue made the buildup even bigger than it should be and besides everything is Uber hyped now...but this race was not that exciting except for yes the last few laps and they didn't penalize Hamilton I believe because he wasn't passing anyone on turn 4 that's why Max I believe had to give the spot back because he was off track when he gained the advantage but the race over all to me wasn't that good last year's Opening races in Austria were 10 times better much more racing more wheel to wheel from mid field to the front runners this race was a yawn race to me Ill keep watching but just wasn't that exciting

I would like Mercedes to show all the fans that the timing and effect of the undercut were not influenced by Hamilton accumulating an advantage 29 laps straight. Attempting an undercut 2 seconds behind is an entirely different ball game than when you have to do it 4 or 6 seconds behind. It makes a huge difference. Of course the first stint of Hamilton was really really good. He accumulated a 0.2 second every lap. It is spectacular how you can be so fast when going off the track. Confusion about the rules failed every single fan. I surely hope this GP is not the benchmark for the 2021 season.

I really don’t get the excitement. Even now with the best car on the track Max is losing to Lewis. Was Bahrain F1 really interesting? Or was it just a hype created to market F1, so that these big companies make a lot of money, piggy back riding on people's emotions and loyalty towards the sport! The winners are the same names....some of the cars have changed colours, some of the teams have new names but the same old people running the teams. Teams like Williams, Aston Martin, Mercedes and to some extent Macleren.... All have same power unit and are almost same in designs Same goes for Redbull and Alfa tauri....and also for Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, and Hass.

@Shogan 将軍 George I mean, what were they really supposed to do? Max's pace wasn't just pulling away from the Mercs, he was constantly within undercut range. He would've lost his position and had the same tires on as Hamilton if he pitted in response to Hamilton. With Checo's car failing on the formation lap and making its way through the field, it was hard to cover off the Mercs strategy. I'm happy to hear what you would've done instead though.

Well apparently Redbull have the best chassis on the grid at the moment... if that’s true it will be very difficult for Mercedes to out-develop them... It is a lot easier to find pace when you’re so off the Mark... but as soon as you start to approach that higher threshold, it becomes considerably more difficult. It’s not a linear trend, and it’s not like Redbull will stagnate either.

I disagree. Even tho Red bull has a better car ATM, Mercedes is the superior TEAM. Toto and Merc showed how good they are. Not just Hamilton who has proven just how exceptional he is but the entire team. It was fairly clear from the first day of practice runs Red Bull had a performance advantage. Once we got to qualifying Merc had not caught up but had clearly closed the gap. On race day, their strategy and the skill of their driver proved the difference. There's still a performance gap but Red Bull can't stand still because Merc will be better in Imola and Red Bull will need to improve or the performance difference may disappear completely

I know people love to hate on Hamilton. There is no denying the dynamic of Hamilton and his crew. They are in sync and have mutual respect for each other. It shows race after race. Hamilton is a great driver. He knows he has a fantastic technical crew to back him through the paces. Verstappen gets a little hot headed at times when he should just nail down and focus. You could see him going wide and nailing the curbs after he had to let Hamilton through.

I really feel the Readbull team gave it away and ripped Max of a win. First of all they misinterpreted the rule in turn four and lost a lot time by staying on track. Secondly, I don't understand why RedBull didn't match the pitstop. If your car is fundamentally quicker and you match strategies you'd expect them to end up on top. Also the general rule is that it's easier maintaining stable tire friendly pace when in front. I can't imagine Lewis being able to keep pace without using up his tires faster than Max ánd be able to overtake Max as well 🤔. Still I don't hear people saying it was a strategic blunder.

It was a strategy blunder for sure. But this was planned very well by the Mercs right from FP1. Redbull used up their hard tires set in practice while Mercedes saved them for the race. It would've been challenging to match strategies with the tyre mismatch

Very similar issue to Lewis vs Kimi in Spa back in 2008. In that scenario Lewis gave the place back on the main straight & then immediately repassed Kimi, gaming the rules as Max suggested to RB he should have done at Bahrain. Back then this resulted in an unexpectedly severe 25 sec penalty for Lewis, dropping him to 3rd. Lewis’ experience turned an aggressive Mercedes strategy into a win this week.

Problem is Hamilton gained advantage in the middle of the race after his undercut, where he gained much time every time he went wide in corner 4 and also having less stress on the tires. Hamilton also went wide in lap 15 when passing Sainz without a warning or penalty giving him the better exit then Sainz.

Alpha Tauri will be kicking themselves for this missed opportunity. They had the fastest car in the midfield, considering Gasly started P5 and on the more durable medium tyres. Without that contact with Ricciardo on the re-start, I think he would've cleared Norris and Leclerc fairly easily and sealed P4 on Sunday. Whether Alpha Tauri has the fastest car in the battle for P3 in the WCC, it's still too early to say. Bahrain is a power circuit, which rewards obviously power, aerodynamic efficiency and traction. The next couple of circuits have different carracteristics, especially Portimao & Monaco (if the latter one even happens). And even if Alpha Tauri have the fastest car in this battle, they need to capitalize on it, unlike they did last weekend.

I think they will be P5 this season, behind Ferrari who will be behind McLaren. Bahrain is traditionally a very strong track for their team, so they might not be up there the whole season. They definitely have improved up the pecking order though. Afraid to say Alpine and Aston Martin were overhyped.

Everytime i see a good f1 race getting r*ped by rules and stuff.. i think grow some balls.. And then i remember there is motogp, where the real battles and gladiators are who dont whine about rules and what is right or wrong. No crybabies with 3 bikes atst through the same corner😀 For a nice in front or inside discussion watch motogp tt Assen 2015 final corner final lap

We can't compare Bahrain to other tracks so we don't know how strong Red Bull and Mercedes are there ... Next race will show what we can expect.

Red Bull defo have a faster package, I could see this from testing. Merc were at their maximum and they have to develop hard over the coming months.

If the Stewards didn’t help Hamilton on purpose it would be surprising given the events that unfolded. This was the only way Hamilton could have won. Red Bull should have kept the lead, won, then show Hamilton driving over the curb 29 times. This is ridiculous

@Thedudeabides803 they weren’t deemed illegal , Race control said they won’t penalise in the race but would in practice.

Do you think the stewards allowing Hamilton 29 illegal turns is fair? You’re not too bright or ignorant on the subject clearly.

So instead of a 1-2 it was a 1-3. Situation normal.

Redbull had differential issues, and could not risk pitting early.

For me it was more of a disappointment than excitement, only Perez was the exciting factor. I believe he can do much better work if he'll be qualified in his optimal position as p4 or maybe even p3.

He’ll get there and possibly further up. He went from pit lane to 5th. Checo drives like his life depends on it. The Red Bull car is a different beast than his old BWT car. He just needs a few more Grand Prix under his belt and we’ll be doing nothing but talking about Checo!

Yet Hamilton gained a overall advantage with his undercut and making up time by going wide in corner 4 every lap in such a way that he could stay ahead of verstappen. Hamilton won because of the advantage he gained in the middle of the race not in the end. Even if it's just 0.1 sec advantage every time he went wide, that's still 2.9 sec doing that 29 times... When Hamilton passed Sainz in lap 15 he went wide in corner 4, no warning or penalty was giving, yet he went over the line with 4 wheels and had a better exit because of it, aka had advantage in the overtake.

@Davy den Dulk Redbull never asked to do the same they saw other drivers going wide at turn 4 so told max to do the same.this is both max's fault aswell as redbull's as they both got the race notes that all drivers and teams got. Bet they read them next race so it will not happen next race atleast. the FIA imo only told them to stop taking the piss as lewis was taking an even wider line that they thought drivers would, as far as i know they never told anyone not to go wide at turn 4 but said to merc that if lewis keeps going way wide he would get a 5sec pen. so lewis was told by his team to not go wide just to be safe. i never heard anybody else get a message from FIA about turn 4.

@Davy den Dulk The pass had already been completed on the straight with DRS. He was a full car length ahead by the time he got to the braking zone; so it's an irrelevant comparison.

@chapster78 he passed him on the inside and then went off track in corner 4 giving him a better / faster exit aka having a advantage. Ocon went off turn 4 and used that to pass tsunoda in lap 20

redbull and max got the same race notes as everyone else. imo it's all there own fault that they didn't use turn 4 exit as the FIA race notes said they could redbull and max either didn't read them or failed to understand them.

As an Aussie, I am of course a little bit disappointed that we didn't get to do the first race of the season as usual. But I have to admit that it probably wouldn't have been as tight a race as this one. Unfortunately, Albert Park doesn't seem to provide Great racing really if we're honest.

@zeljko spoljar Bathurst is a far more interesting track but I fear it would be too dangerous. Those walls are unforgiving. Imagine the speeds that they could get up to on the back straight.

Agree my man you are right what they should do in my opinion is to move Australian F1 adventure to Bathurst now that would be a hell of a race what do you think???

Here's hoping 2022 regs change that. Most of Melbourne's issues are trying to be addressed with the new regs.
